Called Trans2001, French and Swiss counties bordering right-bank Geneva are getting together for their annual cross-border shindig following the success of preceding get-togethers. It’s a sign of the times that the Franco-Swiss border is serving more as a bridge than a wall today.
The two-day Trans2001 to be held in early September is a family affair centered on sports activities (football, rugby, cycling, archery, running) and a ‘wine tasting marathon’ which is a natural, bearing in mind the renown of wines from both sides of the border.
It’s also going to be an ‘international’ event by the very nature of the border region with 185 nationalities represented in Geneva and some 100 nationalities in French region Pays de Gex. Where many international executives from the United Nations’ agencies have opted to live..
New chapter in economic development
Certainly with a shared history, language and heritage, people on both sides of the border get on well together. Since Switzerland voted again not to become a member of the European Union whilst France is a member, Swiss border regions like that of Geneva are working all out on collaborative cross-border regional initiatives that spell a new chapter in economic development.
So not only do French and Genevans work together, they play together…
