On June 22nd, the first rock of the new Campus des Nations was inaugurated. Numerous employees, donors and diverse authorities were present for this event. The future campus of the Ecole Internationale de Genève (Geneva’s International School) will open its doors to students in September 2005.
As the international community continues to grow, a direct result of the Canton of Geneva’s very successful economic development efforts, the new campus will house a purpose-built facility capable of meeting the demanding educational needs of Geneva’s international community. More than two third of the Foundation’s students come from families working for the International Organizations. The new campus will offer an attractive and convenient option for these families.
The school has already expanded its enrolment beyond its natural capacity by building porta-cabines at La Châtaigneraie and Pregny, by leasing the Mies campus site. In December 2003 the Governing Board reconfirmed its decision to move forward with a new campus. This first phase campus will provide classroom space for 624 students. It has the potential to be expanded to a capacity of 1’200 students in its third phase.
The winning architectural firm of Catella, Hauenstein and Ehrensperger of Lausanne presented an innovative and flexible plan that meets the current and future needs of the school.
