In the latest issue of WHY GENEVA? that has just been published, the lead article emphasises the key economic role played by Geneva in an extensive region. Geneva is not only unique in the world but also very much so in the Franco-Swiss region surrounding it. In view of the renown of Geneva internationally, visitors are often surprised by the relatively modest size of the city and the Canton. Certainly the fame of Geneva leads many to suppose a far larger city, a metropolis at least.

All the more impressive, then, that Geneva has earned and continues to maintain such a powerful hold on the attention of the world. It is not easy to explain the multifarious dynamics that keep Geneva steadily centre stage. Many people, companies and organisations have contributed to making Geneva what it is today. It is a city that if it did not exist would need to be invented.
