Geneva has an undeserved reputation for having sky-high costs for business premises. The reality is quite different as a number of objective and credible surveys show. Visit the complete article to check our comparisons with eight other leading European cities.
Finding premises
Paul Epinay, President of the association of real estate agents and CEO of a leading agency himself in Geneva says: ‘Geneva has a highly sophisticated infrastructure to help incoming companies find their ideal premises whether for rental or purchase and for long or short-term lease. In addition, advice can be obtained on how to take advantage of generous fiscal opportunities for companies wishing to build their own custom-designed sites.
‘Recently, the association created a dedicated web site (www.premises.geneva.ch) in collaboration with the State of Geneva. The site features a map of the whole of Geneva divided into communes. One can feed in a number of key criteria that will identify premises of interest with a link to the real estate agent responsible. All sites and links are in English as well as French. Once the serious process of looking for suitable premises in Geneva has begun, regular monitoring of the web site will keep you informed of premises coming on to the market. Our members are, of course, available to help you determine which parts of the region are most appropriate for your needs.’
‘It may take time, as anywhere, to find exactly what you are looking for but there is a sufficient range of different kinds of properties and premises in Geneva to satisfy the broadest range of requirements.’
As an investment
‘There is, of course, an additional important service resulting from this new web site. Helping real estate investors identify suitable properties in Geneva as an investment. Again, there is a rich selection of commercial premises available to allow institutional and private investment from abroad. Each year for example, Geneva and my association participate in the well-known international real estate congress in Cannes in the South of France called MIPIM. This congress and exhibition is for professionals only and offers a first-class opportunity to judge why Geneva and Switzerland represent such a good investment in this domain.’
