The last "Start-Up Breakfast" of year 2003 took place on November 28th at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Organized by the Geneva Office of Economic Development in partnership with numerous private and public sector actors*, this event was a great success once again and attracted numerous participants. The theme this time was Enterprise Valorization. Speakers included a representative of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst&Young and Leman Capital, a private equity investors firm. As always, the debate was conducted by a journalist, catalyzing the interest of the audience on various issues related to enterprise valuation.
This breakfast closes successfully this year the functioning of SmartCapital - the West Switzerland electronic platform allowing investors to meet with innovative start-ups looking for capital and potential investment. Managed by the Geneva Economic Development Office, SmartCapital is the result of close collaboration between various public and private sector partners. Potential investors and start-ups can access, through the platform, the list of already existing projects and have the possibility to add their own information to the database (if accepted by the selection committee). This system creates a rich pool of information, allowing the different parties to create first step contacts and to analyze existing investment opportunities. The "Start-up Breakfasts" represent one of the services provided through the electronic platform to its visitors: actually each user has the possibility to subscribe to a newsletter and to receive the information about upcoming events.
* The partners involved in the Start-up Breakfasts are Deloitte&Touche, Ernst&Young, KPMG, McKinsey, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, PME Magazine, l'Hebdo and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Geneva and Vaud States.
